Thesis editing
I follow the Institute of Professional Editors' guidelines for editing research theses.
In short, the guidelines specify that:
• the student must have permission from their supervisor to use an editor
• editing is restricted primarily to copyediting and proofreading
• the editor should be acknowledged for services rendered
