Proofreading

Proofreading is the last stage of document/project preparation before publication.

By this stage in the production process your material will be formatted, edited and polished.

Sometimes clients ask for a proofread when their project needs a more thorough copyedit or even structural edit.

Proofreading is a check for

• typos and other minor errors

• consistent format (fonts, heading styles, page numbers, captions, etc)

• correct implementation of editing changes

If you have worked hard and long to get your project looking and reading perfectly, this is when a professional proofread is most valuable. It is easy to overlook mistakes in your own work at this point due to overfamiliarity – you will tend to see what you expect to see. A fresh eye spots errors much more easily. A professional proofreader also knows what to look for.
